Brahmayagna - 5

Brahmayagna is one of the most powerful nithya karma , that needs to be performed daily after madhyanikam.  Bhagawan Bodhayana has given a very detailed brahmayagan.  Bhagawan Bodhayana was a great rishi who was the son of Maharishi Kanva. He has written Grihya Suthras which is followed by many. He belonged to the Krishna Yajur Veda. The Amavasya Tharpanam for those who follow Bodhayana Sutra has to be done on Bodhayana Amavasya days. On Chathurdasi day, If Amavasya Thithi starts before 12 hours (30 Nazhigai) from Sun rise, then those who follow Bodhayana Sutra do Tharpana on that day. They also perform Tharpana on Chathurdasi day when, the Prathama Thithi next to Amavasya day ends within 12 hours after sun rise. These are normally listed in the Pangams. This is connected to the story of the artificial Amavasya created by the coming near of the Sun and the moon when the Sun and Moon saw Lord Krishna and Pandavas doing Tharpana before the starting of the Bharatha war, so that t...

In the sloka (Sanskrit verse) beginning with the words, “Suklaambaradharam Vishnum“, only the form of the deity is described. But there is another inner meaning for the name Vinayaka. “Suklaambaradharam” means one who is clad in white. “Vishnum” means He is all‑pervading. “Sasivarnam” means His complexion is grey like that of ash. “Chathurbhujam” means He has four arms. “Prasannavadanam” means, he has always a pleasing mien. “Sarvavighnopasaanthaye” means removal of all obstacles. “Dhyaayeth“, means meditate (on Him). Vinayaka is the deity who removes all bad qualities, instils good qualities, and confers peace on the devotee who meditates...

Nithya Karma

Nithya Karma are those rituals that are performed daily.  Sandhyavandanam Brahmayagnam Aupasanam Samithadhanam  Some vedic scholars  also do nithya agnihotra. Nithya karma is the basic foundation of Sanatana Dharama. Its like the roots of the tree.
